How the layout works
The colony was developed by the Lucknow Development Authority in phases, which is why the naming is systematic rather than organic. Most sub-sectors carry a name beginning with V — Vibhuti Khand, Vipul Khand, Vinay Khand, Vishal Khand, Viraj Khand, Vikas Khand, Vijay Khand, Vivek Khand, Vastu Khand and others.
Phase 1 sits closer to the older city side and the Gomti river. Phase 2 extends outward and is generally newer. Gomti Nagar Extension is a separate, much newer development further out and is covered on its own page.
What each area tends to be known for
Vibhuti Khand is the commercial and office-heavy pocket, with a concentration of corporate space, hotels and restaurants. Vipul Khand and Vinay Khand are largely residential with established local markets. Vijay Khand and Vishal Khand mix housing with schools and everyday retail.
These are tendencies, not rules — Gomti Nagar is mixed-use almost everywhere, and a single khand can hold plots, builder floors and apartment towers side by side.
Choosing between them
For proximity to offices and nightlife, the Vibhuti Khand side is the obvious pick. For quieter, more settled residential streets with mature trees, the interior khands of Phase 1 tend to win. For newer construction and larger units at lower per-square-foot rates, look outward toward the Extension.
