What a PG usually includes
Most listings cover a bed in a shared or single room, electricity within a cap, water, and cleaning of common areas. Meals are sometimes bundled and sometimes charged separately, and the difference is worth clarifying in writing.
Wi-fi, laundry and air-conditioning are the three items most often assumed and least often included by default.
Who it suits
It works well for a first few months in a new city, for anyone on a short posting, and for people who would rather not furnish a place. It works less well if you cook seriously, keep irregular hours, or want guests over.
Questions to ask before paying
Ask what the electricity cap is and what happens above it, whether the deposit is refundable and on what notice, whether there is a gate timing, and how many people share the bathroom.
Visit the actual room being offered rather than a sample, and go once in the evening when the place is occupied.
